RABBI SHMUEL ZILBER
Head of School / Menahel
Rabbi Shmuel Zilber has recently joined Tiferes Bais Yaakov as our Head of School / Menahel. A highly respected Mechanech and community leader, Rabbi Zilber brings experience, leadership, and knowledge to Tiferes Bais Yaakov. Rabbi Zilber combines passion and skill to help adapt the best Chinuch strategies for the current generation of students. Rabbi Zilber spent 12 years at Yeshiva Darchei Torah of Toronto, where in addition to teaching and mentoring High School students, he was responsible for the school recruitment and admissions. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Rabbi Zilber attended Yeshivas Toras Moshe in Yerushalayim, and continued his Rabbinical studies at Beth Medrash Govoah of Lakewood. Rabbi Zilber and his family moved to Ottawa, Canada in 2003. He served as a member of the Kollel, forging relationships with many people through his lectures, learning, outreach, and mentoring. Rabbi Zilber settled in Toronto in 2007 and continues to make an impact on the students and the Chinuch landscape of our community.
MRS. ADINA RIBACOFF
Limudei Kodesh Principal
Mrs. Adina Ribacoff is currently the Limudei Kodesh Principal at Tiferes Bais
Yaakov and has been with the school since September 2005. Mrs. Ribacoff develops the Jewish Studies Curriculum and oversees its implementation on a day-to-day basis. She focuses on instilling and developing in the girls a positive spiritual and religious connection. Mrs. Ribacoff teaches Chumash and Kesuvim to Grade 12 and gives the girls the tools to build a proper foundation for their future homes. During the summer, Mrs. Ribacoff studied at the Harvard Graduate School of Education Principals’ Center. In addition, she holds a Masters of Education in Educational Administration and Leadership from Yorkville University. Mrs. Ribacoff lectures to women in the US and Canada on various topics and gives parenting and Shalom Bayis workshops. Her daughter Kimchit graduated from Tiferes Bais Yaakov in 2013.
MRS. POLINA NAGLA
General Studies Principal
Mrs. Polina Nagla is currently the General Studies Principal at Tiferes Bais Yaakov and has been with the school since September 2014. Prior to joining Tiferes Bais Yaakov, Mrs. Nagla worked for the Toronto District School Board and taught at Bnos Bais Yaakov. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Art History, a Bachelor of Education and is currently enrolled in the Master’s Dimension program with the Ontario Principal’s Council (OPC). She has earned her Principal’s Qualifications from OPC. In addition, she holds Specialist Qualifications in Guidance Education and History. She has additional qualifications in Special Education, Library, ESL, and Family Studies. As an advocate for teacher training and student achievement and well-being, Mrs. Nagla has been a leader on the Professional Development Committee and works closely with colleagues to develop workshops in the areas of mental health, student assessment, technology integration and pedagogy to enhance the curriculum and student success. She is currently teaching: Grade 9 and 10 English. Mrs. Nagla is a member of the Ontario College of Teachers and the Ontario Principal’s Council. She has taught Ahavas Yisroel classes in Thornhill Woods and is a mentor with Partners in Torah.
MRS. RITA DRUTZ
Mrs. Rita Drutz has been teaching Careers, Geography, History and Math at Tiferes Bais Yaakov since 2000 and is also the Social Science Curriculum Leader. In 2014, she accepted the position of General Studies Vice Principal. Throughout her teaching career, Mrs. Drutz has had the opportunity to teach both mothers and daughters of the Tiferes community. Before joining Tiferes, Mrs. Drutz taught Physical Education and Mathematics at Bais Yaakov High School from 1977-1980. She has a Honours BA in Phyiscal and health Education and a concurrent Bachelor’s Degree in Education from York University.
MR. LAWRENCE WEINBERG
Mr. Lawrence Weinberg has held the position of Executive Director for Tiferes Bais Yaakov since 2006 and oversees and administers the activities in the Finance Office. All non-educational responsibilities fall within his purview, including all fundraising activities, budgets, tuition matters, contracts, and the maintenance of the facilities. Prior to joining our school, Mr. Weinberg had over eight years of experience as Operations Manager of a local auction company. Mr. Weinberg has shared his time, talent and energy volunteering in schools, shuls, and Chessed committees in the Toronto community. He has an Honours BSc from the University of Toronto. His daughter Ariella graduated from Tiferes Bais Yaakov in 2011.
MRS. GALINA POLIKASHOV
Mrs. Galina Polikashov joined the Tiferes family back in 2002 as the Bookkeeper. She deals with all aspects of banking, bookkeeping and business transactions. She brings with her specialized experience in previous positions as Bookkeeper for The Goldman Group in Toronto from 2000 – 2002, Bookkeeper for Quadracon Inc. in Toronto from 1996 – 2000, and Financial Analyst for the Ministry of External Affairs in Moscow, Russia, 1978 – 1991. Mrs. Polikashov has a Masters in Economics and Computer Science from Moscow University of Economics and Statistics.
MRS. NATALIE KATZ
Mrs. Natalie Katz works in the Finance Office. Her job includes charitable donation receipts and tuition administration. Mrs. Katz joined Tiferes in the spring of 2007 and also teaches Physics to Grades 11 and 12. Prior to joining Tiferes Mrs. Katz was an executive Assistant at Zareinu for 2.5 years. Before that she worked for IBM Canada in their Software Development team, and in Services and Training. Mrs. Katz has a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Software Engineering and Computer Science.
MRS. HENNIE ZOLTY
Mrs. Hennie Zolty holds a Masters in Counselling Psychology and is a qualifying registered psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). She also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Jewish Education from the Binah Institute in Baltimore, Maryland and a Masters in Special Education from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In addition to working as the school therapist in Tiferes Bais Yaakov, she has a private practice where she provides counselling services for individuals, couples, and families. Previously, Mrs. Zolty taught Chumash at Tiferes Bais Yaakov and Jewish History, Math, Art, and English Literature in various schools around the globe.
MRS. LYNN LICHTENSTEIN
Student Success Centre – Coordinator & Guidance Department Head
Mrs. Lynn Lichtenstein, Special Education Coordinator, accommodates or modifies course work whenever required, creates individualised programs and is there to listen whenever a student needs her. She is available to all students, not only to those with identified learning needs. In her role as Guidance Counsellor, she advises students on course selection and post-secondary options. Mrs. Lichtenstein has been at TBY since 2008 and has added Guidance and teaching Grade 9 Learning Strategies to her many roles. Mrs. Lichtenstein is a member of the Professional Development Committee. She has degrees from York University and from OISE/U of T in Special Education. Mrs. Lichtenstein taught in many schools in Toronto including Eitz Chaim, Bnei Akiva Schools, Bais Yaakov Elementary, and WillowWood before coming to Tiferes. Her daughter Shira graduated from Tiferes Bais Yaakov in 2011 and her daughter in law Daniella graduated in 2010.
MRS. SHAYNA FRIEDMAN
Mrs. Shayna Friedman, Special Education Coordinator, accommodates or modifies course work whenever required, creates individualised programs and is there to listen whenever a student needs her. She is available to all students, not only to those with identified learning needs. Mrs. Friedman has been with the school since 2004, starting out as a tutor and providing assistance on exams. She then assumed her current position as Special Education Coordinator in 2006. Mrs. Friedman brings with her a Bachelor of Commerce in Computers from McGill University and previous experience teaching Computers to adults and to high school students for many years. She then earned a Masters of Education from York University and Additional Qualifications in Special Education. Mrs. Friedman is a member of the Professional Development Committee.
MISS BATYA FEIGENBAUM
Miss Batya Feigenbaum is TBY’s Director of Student Affairs. She creates different programs throughout the year which use the students talents and help them grow in a ruchnius way. Miss Feigenbaum acts as the “go-to person” for students who have questions or issues in any area of their school day. She also produces and directs the biennial Tiferes Bais Yaakov original school production. Miss Feigenbaum teaches Bekius – General Torah Knowledge and focuses on the spiritual and religious development of the Tiferes girls. Miss Feigenbaum is a graduate of Me’ohr Bais Yaakov Teachers Seminary in Yerushalayim, and started working at Tiferes in 2004.
MRS. PAZIT SHUKROON
Mrs. Pazit Shukroon has been with Tiferes Bais Yaakov since 2012 and is the Student Activities Coordinator. She also teaches a Hebrew Language course and a Chumash class. Mrs. Shukroon received her BA in Judaic Studies and Mathematics from the Teachers College of Bais Yaakov Scharansky in Tel Aviv, Israel. Following six years of teaching in Israel, at both the elementary and high school levels, Mrs. Shukroon moved with her family to Canada. Here she taught in a local day school for five years before joining the Tiferes family. In her role as Student Activities Coordinator, Mrs. Shukroon ensures that the students fulfill their Ministry of Education requirements for community service hours, coordinates Chesed activities, arranges Rosh Chodesh programs, plans Shabbatonim and liaises with outside organizations for all special programs. Her role is pivotal in promoting the values of Tiferes Bais Yaakov through Student Council and extracurricular activities.
MISS SARAH RECHNITZ
Miss Sarah Rechnitz has been with Tiferes Bais Yaakov since June 2014 and works as the Development Coordinator. She works closely with the Executive Director on all aspects of fundraising initiatives and events. She brings to the TBY team her skills in Graphic and Web Design and experience from previous places of employment.
MISS RACHELLI COHEN
Miss Rachelli Cohen is the Office Coordinator and works closely with the principals of Tiferes Bais Yaakov. Miss Cohen takes care of organizing, and delegating when necessary, all administrative tasks associated with the front office of Tiferes Bais Yaakov. She is the first contact for parents, students, faculty and guests with whatever they may need. Miss Cohen assists faculty with all correspondences to parents, prospective parents, schools and businesses.
